Don’t just hire the first agent you meet without asking them a few important questions. Having a Buyer’s Agent represent you in the buying process of your next Portland area home is a very important decision.
A good Buyer’s agent will never avoid any questions and should answer honestly. Even if you decide to choose another agent.
How many clients are you working with? (Too many clients may be a sign that you won’t get the attention you deserve.)
How long have you been doing real estatein the area? How long have you lived in the area? (These questions will give you an idea of how well they know the housing market in the areas you are looking)
How much notice do you need if I want to look at a home? (This gives you an idea of how busy the are. Too busy? May not be a good fit)
How do you find houses that I may want to look at? (Do they have mutiple sources?Or do they only rely on the MLS?)
When I find a home that I want to buy, how much contact will you have with me throughout the process? How will you maintain contact?(It will up to you decide if you like the answer that is given)
Would you represent me if I decide I want to buy a FSBO? (Some agents refuse to just because they may not get paid. Also, some agents are bound by their company policies not to engage in the saleof a FSBO. It’s up to you to determine how you feel about the response.)
